Immigration Policy Protest Art, Oakland Asian Cultural Center — Wednesdays, 8 p.m. continues through April 21

The House’s recent failure to override Trump’s declaration of “national emergency” over the border wall makes Immigration Emergency: In Defense and Defiance, an exhibit of protest art by the San Francisco Poster Syndicate, timely and urgent. The Muslim ban, the betrayal of DACA students, ICE raids, and the detention/expropriation of immigrant children all betray democratic American principles, and the imperial wall is a monument to our Builder/Destroyer-in-Chief. The more than 30 artists combatting these dark times include Bay Area silkscreen stalwarts Kathy Aoki, Juan Fuentes, Art Hazelwood, Nancy Hom, Doug Minkler, Patrick Piazza, Calixto Robles, Joanna Ruckman, Jos Sances (whose colossal scratchboard of a while can now be seen at Richmond Art Center), and Xavier Viramontes, as well as next-gen newcomers to the fray, and three documentary photographers.
